CHILD was established in December 1984 under the Companies Act 1965 as a voluntary, non-profit organisation. Funded solely by public contributions and member subscriptions, CHILD is a social movement dedicated to creating opportunities for less fortunate and disadvantaged children to realise their full potential.

While children from middle and upper-income families have access to good education, healthcare, and social facilities, many from lower-income backgrounds face serious disadvantages. Poverty, malnutrition, poor health, and a lack of educational support often cause them to drop out of school, leading to long-term social issues such as unemployment and substance abuse.

CHILD believes that every child deserves a fair start in life. Through education, health, and community-based programmes, we work hand in hand with individuals, communities, and the government to ensure that no child is left behind.

For over three decades, CHILD has been at the forefront of improving educational opportunities for Tamil school children across Malaysia. Our long-standing partnership with Tamil schools has helped uplift academic standards and strengthen collaboration between teachers, parents, and communities.

One of our most impactful initiatives is our Preschool Programme, created to give children from low-income families a strong educational foundation before entering primary school. Many Tamil schools lack preschools, and this gap limits early learning development. CHILD’s preschools aim to provide structured early education, trained teachers, and a nurturing environment that builds confidence, literacy, and social skills – helping children transition smoothly into formal schooling.

In today’s rapidly evolving global landscape, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has become a core pillar influencing education, employability, and social mobility. Recognising the need for inclusive and equitable access to digital skills, Program Titian Digital (PTD) was initiated in 2009 by the Hindu Youth Organisation Port Klang (HYO Port Klang) and the Malaysian Community & Education Foundation (MCEF). The programme was established to empower students of Malaysian Tamil schools with essential ICT literacy while reducing the digital divide among rural, urban poor, and underserved urban communities.

PTD is currently overseen and actively managed by Pertubuhan Titian Digital Malaysia (PTDM), a national-level non-governmental organisation formed to strengthen governance, scalability, and long-term sustainability. To date, PTD has positively impacted more than 50,000 students, conducted daily and weekly ICT education programmes in selected Tamil Schools nationwide. PTD Programme was recognised by the Malaysian Book of Records in 2011 for Malaysia’s Largest Participation of Open Source Software Users. In recognition of its sustained contributions to ICT-driven educational development, PTDM also received the GOPIO International Excellence Award 2015 for Synergizing Tamil School Growth for ICT Development.

PTDM delivers a comprehensive, school-complimentary ICT education model that  encompasses weekly ICT classes, ICT tutor training, mentoring, and structured tutor development. Its core activities include ICT lab development, ICT curriculum development, and the publishing of learning modules, supported by real-world ICT industry experts. PTDM also organises school, state, and national-level ICT competitions, ICT enhancement programmes, and centralised ICT Development Committee meetings to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with evolving digital needs.

In addition, PTDM conducts ICT awareness and training programmes for school teachers, parents, and ex-students, fostering a holistic digital learning ecosystem beyond the classroom. The initiative is strengthened through strategic partnerships with School Boards of Governors (LPS), Parent-Teacher Associations (PIBG), and school management teams. Sustainability is ensured through diversified funding from foundations, corporations, entrepreneurs, government agencies (excluding the Ministry of Education), and goodwill individuals. The extensive use of open-source software enables cost efficiency, scalability, and long-term viability.

Through strong governance, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and industry partnerships, PTDM continues to advance digital inclusion and empower future-ready learners across Malaysia.

On the 16th of December 1963, it was renamed as “Malaysia Andhra Sangamu” which was then subsequently renamed as “Telugu Association of Malaysia” on the 22nd of October 1983.

In the continued efforts to safeguard cultural identity, heritage and preserve the Telugu language, Telugu Association of Malaysia has to date established 30 branches nationwide and currently represents approximately 500,000 Telugus in Malaysia. The premier batch of Telugu Students who have completed the Certification Programmes have also completed the Diploma in Telugu Language Programme offered by the University and are currently part of the Teaching Faculty of the Academy. The Association had to embark in such a mammoth task to preserve the Telugu Language and Culture as all 70 Telugu Schools that existed prior to independence had to be closed down due to numerous factors and the Telugu Language Examination which was offered in the SPM Examination was also discontinued ever since the year 1993.
MySkills Foundation, established in 2011, is a non-profit organisation committed to the transformation of youth-at-risk in Malaysia particularly school dropouts and young individuals from underprivileged, dysfunctional, or high-risk environments. Many of these youths face multidimensional challenges such as broken families, poverty, low educational attainment, substance abuse, and exposure to crime or violence.

In response to this social crisis, MySkills developed a Holistic Transformation Skills Training Programme, a fully residential model grounded in character re-engineering and skills competency. This unique intervention integrates emotional development, life management, social skills, and vocational training to equip young people with the tools needed for sustainable employment, self-worth, and positive life choices.

The training model is built on the principle of 70% character development and 30% skills training, ensuring that transformation is deeply rooted in values, resilience, and emotional maturity. MySkills recognises that many youths who are academically weak often possess strong potential in vocational trades, sports, the arts, and entrepreneurship. By nurturing these untapped strengths in a safe and structured environment, MySkills gives them a second chance to reimagine their future and reintegrate into mainstream society.

Since inception, MySkills has impacted over 3,000 lives through its various programmes. The organisation operates from a 34-acre purpose-built campus in Kalumpang, Selangor, where students live, learn, and grow in a community that fosters discipline, empathy, and responsibility.

MySkills envisions a Malaysia where no youth is left behind where every individual, regardless of background, has access to a transformational pathway that builds not just workers, but citizens of character and purpose.

Hindu Sevai Sangam (HSS), established in 1983 in Malaysia, is a respected community organisation committed to the welfare, development, and empowerment of the Hindu community. Over the decades, HSS has worked beyond spiritual and cultural upliftment to address critical social challenges through dedicated grassroots initiatives across the nation.

A notable example of HSS’s transformative work took place in Cameron Highlands in the early 1990s, when the area experienced an alarming number of suicide cases that received little attention at the time. Responding to this crisis, HSS took the initiative to support the community by deploying Shri Karuji (Pracharak) to the area. Through awareness programmes such as Shaka and Samskarkendra, alongside counselling and family support, HSS helped restore hope, emotional resilience, and social stability. In subsequent years, suicide cases declined significantly. When the Malaysian government later reviewed this improvement, it recognised that Hindu community organisations had played a vital role, with HSS identified as the main contributor. This acknowledgment enhanced HSS’s credibility and standing as an effective grassroots organisation.

SEWA (selfless service) lies at the heart of HSS’s mission and is regarded not as charity, but as a collective responsibility towards building a compassionate society. Among its ongoing initiatives is the Monthly Grocery Assistance Programme, which supports 35 underprivileged families in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor with essential supplies, ensuring their basic needs are met with dignity.

HSS has also demonstrated long-standing commitment during major religious events. In collaboration with the Sevai Ashram Foundation Malaysia, HSS has organised Annathanam during the Thaipusam festival for over 20 years. From 23 to 25 January 2024, more than 22,000 devotees were served meals at Sri Subramaniar Devasthanam, Batu Caves, through the dedicated efforts of over 200 volunteers.

To further support the festival, the HSS Thaipusam Task Force works closely with temple authorities, NGOs, and public agencies to ensure crowd safety and smooth movement, assisting pilgrims—especially kavadi and paal kudam bearers—throughout their spiritual journey.

Additional SEWA initiatives include Pleats of Love, through which over 1,300 sarees were collected and distributed to underprivileged women across Kuala Lumpur, Kedah, and Johor, and the annual Deepavali Hamper programme, conducted with Malaysia Hindu Dharma Maamandram, benefiting 150 underprivileged families in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

PPST plays a proactive role in identifying, acquiring, and managing suitable land for the construction and expansion of Tamil schools. This includes applying for government land, negotiating the takeover of private or estate land through state governments, and purchasing private land where necessary. Through these efforts, PPST ensures that Tamil schools have a secure physical foundation to operate and grow.

Beyond land acquisition, PPST actively supports the development of essential school facilities such as classrooms, halls, canteens, toilets, and preschools through collaborative initiatives involving government, private sector partners, and joint ventures. The organisation also explores income-generating land initiatives to provide sustainable financial support for Tamil school development.

In addition, PPST assists schools in establishing School Boards, strengthening governance and ensuring effective management. Through its holistic and forward-looking approach, PPST continues to play a vital role in safeguarding the future of Tamil education and empowering generations of students through access to quality learning environments.

Persatuan Pendidikan Ilham Kuala Lumpur & Selangor (PPI) is a forward-looking, non-profit educational organisation founded in 2015, driven by a clear mission; to inspire, empower, and transform the next generation through innovative and inclusive learning experiences.

At the heart of PPI’s work lies a firm belief that education must evolve to meet the demands of a changing world. We focus on nurturing young minds in key STEM disciplines; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, with strong emphasis on Mathematics, Computational Thinking, and Higher Order Thinking Skills.

Our programmes are designed to cultivate 21st-century competencies such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration; preparing students not just to succeed academically, but to lead, innovate, and thrive in the future economy.

At PPI, we envision education as holistic, equitable, and community-driven. We go beyond traditional classroom learning by creating immersive, hands-on experiences that ignite curiosity, foster problem-solving, and encourage independent learning.

Our approach transforms students from passive learners into active creators and innovators, capable of shaping solutions for real-world challenges.

In championing sustainability and inclusivity, PPI operates on a social enterprise model; one that empowers local communities to take shared ownership of educational progress. This model encourages collective participation, where parents, educators, and local partners contribute meaningfully to both the design and implementation of our programmes.

By doing so, we reduce dependency on conventional funding sources such as government grants or NGO aid, and instead build self-sustaining, impact-driven initiatives supported by volunteers, community champions, and strategic collaborations.

Through this approach, PPI stands as a strong advocate for education with purpose and participation. We believe that when communities co-invest in learning, the outcomes are more resilient, inclusive, and transformative.

Our journey continues to be guided by the conviction that empowering one child uplifts a family; and empowering a community builds a stronger, more equitable nation.
